Pat Dunning

Pat Dunning has been teaching and practicing several styles of yoga (Iyengar, Vinyasa Integrated, and Therapeutic yoga for more than 30 years, and Ayurveda Wellness counseling for over three years. She is a certified yoga instructor (E-RYT500), Ayurveda coach, and Yoga Therapist, and is a registered member of Yoga Alliance and the Association of International Therapists. Pat studied yoga under the tutelage of an Indian guru, Professor Risvodkar, while also pursuing her Ph.D. in intercultural communication at the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus on Eastern philosophy. During her career as a professor at George Washington University, and the University of Maryland, she taught yoga to the faculty and students.

Currently, Pat teaches group and private yoga, as well as ayurveda classes and workshops in her studio, Namaste Yoga Studio in Temple Hills, MD, and corporate yoga in DC. She has been featured in various newspapers and appeared on several local and international television stations. Her personal style of teaching is a relaxed, therapeutic and healing approach to yoga (function over form).

Pat recently returned from two ashrams in India, where she took advanced studies and training in “Chakra Sadhana” (chakra practice), “Prana Vidya” (the complete science of awakening, manipulating and directing prana) and “Ajapa Dharana (one-pointed concentration on the spontaneous repetition of mantra), which she incorporates in her yoga classes. As a breast and cancer survivor, Pat knows about physical and psycho-emotional stress. She as a deep sense of mission when it comes to personal wellness, which she firmly believes is achieved through yoga (self-realization) and ayurveda (self-healing), the sister sciences of ancient India.
