Haflas
Come Join Our HAFLA! Sunday Feb 19th 4~7pm
A Hafla is a “women only” party featuring dances from the Middle East. The participants supply the entertainment in terms of dance. You don’t have to dance, but you will want to, and if you don’t know how, we will teach you. There will be women with prior dance experience and total newbies. We will enjoy not only dancing but sharing…of music, videos, knowledge of the dances (both technical and historical), musical instruments, and food. Cost will be $5 OR bring some Mediterranean or Middle Eastern type food to share (hummus, falafel, fruit such as dates/figs, dried apricots, etc. just as long as it’s not messy). You should wear comfortable clothing or dress in belly-dance costume if you have it. The focus of a Hafla is the enjoyment of the participants. Shared experience builds a sense of community, and it’s the gathering together of people that creates shared experience.
We are very excited to be hosting this local Hafla and hope to see many of you ladies there. If you have any questions please call Donna at TYR/HAC – 843-450-9402.
Next Hafla Date: Sunday Feb 19th 4-7pm Come meet Roxanne Balcer who will be teaching Tribal Dance beginning March 3rd.
We are still gathering for classes and fun and adding a Tribal Style Teacher as well as Classical Egyptian. So two opportunities a week to dance.
“Dance when you’re broken open. Dance, if you’ve torn the bandage off. Dance in the middle of the fighting. Dance in your blood. Dance, when you’re perfectly free.
